Smartphones
Subscribers to Internet services can enjoy the freedom and savings of sharing data across all their devices and among family members, STANLEY OPARA writes
Do you have a smartphone and a tablet on separate plans and you are considering adding another tablet because your needs are expanding? That may not be necessary. With the data sharing model, you and everyone in your family – and all those devices – can share a single wireless plan. The data that is not used by one device can be used by another on the same plan.
The more devices that share the plan, the more you save per device and, since you will all be on one account, you will only get one bill and have one billing date.
Before now, everyone, who had smartphones and tablets, used a different plan for each device. There are different billing dates for everyone; unused data for one device is lost after one month, while another device exceeds its data allowance; and, overall, you feel you are paying too much.
But now, you can share your Internet subscription with other phone lines on the same network provider. For people who have multiple devices, this may prevent the need to subscribe for ‘BIS’ on their BlackBerry and at the same time subscribe for data on the android device as well.
You can also share your data with friends and family, for instance, in a case where you don’t do heavy browsing on one of your devices and require a smaller data allowance on that device, you can give some of your data to someone who needs it.
In Nigeria, there are different conditions for activating this service; and they are dependent on the network used.
